My clients often ask where they can have something authentic and eat like the locals. Konoba Hvaranin in Split is definitely one of those places!
This past Sunday we decided to eat out as we spent too much time on the Riva with our clients leaving for a week long gulet trip. Hvaranin seemed the best choice being close and we wanted something good.

“Hvaranin” is not something to look at from the street but this place is not about the looks. It is about great food. This place is also a popular hang out for local intellectuals and writers but this time we encountered only a group of Italians enjoying almost everything that was on the menu… The walls are filled with autographed books by the authors who are regular here. Most of them are quite popular!

All that under a supervision of the owner and main chef…

We decided to go with typical dalmatian favorites: gnocchi in home made tomato sauce, octopus salad and I went with clams “Hvaranin” way.
All three dishes were perfect but the home made tomato sauce was a true winner!

I also enjoyed a glass of Hvar’s own Bogdanuša wine with my meal and that wine never stops surprising with sea food!
The dessert list is not too long so we opted for traditional rozata. One of the best we had in a while!

Overall, this place givers great value for money with this lunch being about 40 E for all three of us. But the most important thing is that the food is incredibly tasty and the sea food is fresh. If looking for an authentic food experience in Split, this is the place that should be seriously considered!
