Last weekend I had to go to Dubrovnik for a brief inspection trip so I decided to visit one of Dubrovnik’s best known restaurants – Proto – and have lunch there.
Proto is located very close to Pile gates and to the right from Stradun when walking from Pile.

Proto is primarily known as one of the best sea food places in Dubrovnik and it also has a good reputation for quality food unlike many other restaurants in the Old Town…
We decided to sit at the terrace as it was quite a lovely day feeling almost as if it was summer already. Old Town was packed with tourists and travelers discovering all the riches of Dubrovnik and the terrace, being nearly empty, looked like a sanctuary away from the masses.

The menu at Proto is not extensive but offers several local classics mixed with new and innovative dishes with local sea-food. That’s why we decided to go with Sea bream filet in olive paste and with Grilled adriatic squid. Something you cannot go wrong with.

Unlike the stuff we had in Makarska, the squid served here were the real deal!

The food served was excellent although I expected a bit more. Maybe something extra on our plates to give that special touch to everything. For dessert, we went with rozata and hazelnut parfait creme both being really good.

Overall, a very good choice for sea-food and meals in general, while in Dubrovnik. Not for the budget oriented as one can eat for much less in any of the nearby restaurants. But, for quality meals, superb service and great outdoor seating, Proto is one of my top choices in Dubrovnik.
Highly recommended for anyone traveling to Dubrovnik!
