In Dalmatia, people usually invest in real estate: cheap apartments and houses. And then complaint how business is slow and they how they don’t make enough money… Same with locals and with the ones from inner Croatia who build here. They both have in common poor sense of business, greed and usually very poor taste as those houses are often very ugly.
None of them even thinks of starting something new and adding value to a destination.
Since most of the business is family oriented, how about starting a petting zoo?

The only example of something like that, in Dalmatia, is located very far away from the main tourist destinations. In a tiny village of Zaton Obrovački, a smart animal lover built his own zoo with about 25 – 30 animal species. Kids here can enjoy ostriches, deer, pigs, goats, donkey, swan… but also some birds of prey (always hurting seeing them caged 🙁 ), parrots…

Although this zoo is not really animal friendly and a lot can be done to improve it and make it a better place for all these animals, it is still a nice spot for kids as they run around and keep yelling:” Mom, have you seen this, have you seen that”. So, why there is nothing of a kind much closer to the sea and main tourist destinations?
The Zoo is located right on the old road coming from Velebit mountain to Dalmatia, on the very crossroad to Obrovac and cannot be missed. The zoo is part of “Anita” restaurant where you can enjoy some other animals in a very different way and superb home baked bread “ispod peke”

There are no entrance fees for this zoo and it is open every day from 7 AM to 7 PM
