Kornat Restaurant in Zadar

Yesterday was a gorgeous day so we headed to Zadar for a coffee with friends. The old town was bustling with people and, despite the terrible economy and many stores closing, Zadar’s “poluotok” was alive as always on Saturday’s morning.

After wondering around for a while, sipping coffee in a sunny spot… it was time to grab something for lunch.
While we enjoyed Bruschetta few months back, we decided to try the iconic Kornat – usually regarded as Zadar’s best restaurant.

Although the terrace and the exterior don’t look promising, the interiors are stylish and very pleasant.

The staff is also very, very professional and pleasant!

The menu is great! In line with most menus of upscale restaurants offering local delicacies with a twist. We started with some sort of a wrap of salmon, cottage cheese and shrimp that were served with couvert (tuna pate) and that was an excellent start. I decided to go with Australian Rosemount Shiraz 2008 but that did not go well with this šŸ™

Next, we ordered main dish and my wife ordered dentex fillets with mushrooms and I ordered a leg of lamb served with herbs and potatoes. Both delicious! Now the shiraz paired well…
Since we are both so pathetic when it comes to eating large portions, we hardly ate what we were served! And I did not have breakfast…

Next, although quite full, we had to try the desserts. Both the pretty standard chocolate cake and tiramisu were just great!

Tiramisu mmmmm

Well, this was our first visit in a while but I have to say that we will be back soon! The cost: couvert, glass of wine, 0,7 dl water, one cold apetizer, leg of lamb and dentex fillets, two cakes – 386 Kn (cc 71 USD or 53 Euros). Great value!
It is just sad that the economic situation is so bad and locals lost the custom of going out so the restaurant was half full for Saturday’s lunch… The waiter told us that they have a three course menu for 60 Kn (cc 11 USD, 8,5 E) every day and that is quite popular.

Too bad the restaurant does not have the web site but it takes all credit cards and works regular working hours. Outside terrace is for smokers.
Definitely a place to visit while in Zadar!
