Best restaurants of Croatia – Kapetanova kuća, Ston Mali

Every time I go to Dubrovnik, or even on a longish trip from Split, I try to stop at “Kapetanova kuća” restaurant for a meal. Famous for oysters and sea food, this restaurant is one of the best known “temples” of south Dalmatian cuisine! Despite some great Dubrovnik restaurants, Ston is still a place of worship among the locals!

First time I was there, several years ago, I was visiting the nearby Hotel Ostrea on my site inspection of Pelješac region I was with my friend Toni. After seeing the hotel, we simply could not wait to get our hands o oysters and frutti di mare pasta! Here we are at the table with Mr. Željko Kralj, owner of Hotel Ostrea. Great guy!

With a glass of local Pošip, we were introduced to a fabulous cuisine of Kapetanova kuća! Oysters for starters (best I ever had!) and traditional desserts to end this great lunch with!

Enjoying a great lunch

We had a full plate of traditional cookies and cakes among which, stonski makaruni (cake made of pasta) was unbelievable! Both interesting and tasty! So good that I forgot to take pictures 🙁 !

Saying good bye was not easy but it was a very good start to our wine tasting adventure of Pelješac, later that day :))

Kapetanova kuća is a very popular restaurant and, especially for dinners and Sunday lunches, it may be a good idea to make a reservation. It is run by one of Croatia’s best know chefs, Lidija Kralj, who is also a cooking star on national television.
Kapetanova kuća is best known for “black risotto”!

Historic Ston mali is famous for fortresses and walls!
