Always in search of great restaurants I keep asking my friends and business partners where to go. So, recently, before going to Zagreb, my friend recommended us Trilogija restaurant in historic part of Zagreb: just next to the Kamenita vrata gate.
They advertise themselves as “snack-bar” or zalogajnica (if I am translating it correctly) but this is a real restaurant. One interesting thing about Trilogija is that there is no fixed menu and the daily menu is formed according to the offer at nearby Dolac market. Great idea for a place so close to the major green market!
The menu is usually written on a board outside the doors but we beat the waiter to it as it was only about 11:30 when we showed up for lunch.
The waiter is great at Trilogija! We simply love when people are working hard and have a passionate approach to food and wine!
So we started with a glass of wine: Jakob cuvée was an interesting introduction to this wine maker from Slavonija.
We asked the waiter to recommend something for starters and we decided to try soups as we wanted to have something to eat “with a spoon”: vegetable, mushroom and lamb soups were served and each was quite special. The mushroom soup was fabulous although not thick like those made with cream. And it was filled with mushrooms!
Then we decided to go with 21 day aged rump steak with fried mushrooms as the lamb-burger did not appeal to us and the girls did not want the risotto with mango.
And this was a GREAT choice as the meat was simply melting in our mouths!
And, of course, we left some room for the desserts: chocolate cake, maraschino cherry cake and chestnut cake. All good but only good… I expected something more innovative and different.
Total cost for all mentioned for all 4+kid = 100 USD or 556 Kuna. A very good value!
The only bad comment I can make about the entire experience are the toilets that should be refurbished.
But when it comes to food and prices, this is a fabulous place just steps from the main square!
Highly recommended and we will be back!
