Best Restaurants in Croatia – Le Mandrac

Ok, this time this IS the best restaurant in Croatia by many!
We had a rare opportunity to stop by in picturesque Volosko on our way south from Istria and I would highly recommend it to all! Not only for spectacular food but also for great setting as Volosko is part of beautiful Opatija.
As we had a scheduled meeting with Tanja, the manager we had to make a small detour and enjoy a short stroll to the restaurant. You can park nearby but how you will get back on those narrow streets; don’t ask me! So I parked safe next to restaurant Amfora and walked down to Le Mandrac.

Tanja insisted that we had something to eat and what else but famous Le Mandrac fritaja! Voted most innovative dish in Croatia! When it came to our table it looked like an over sized egg fried “sunny side up”. We looked it and didn’t quite know what to do with it so Tanja, seeing how confused we were, told us to mix everything and enjoy it.

Mixed, we saw the shrimp, the asparagus…and all the tastes exploded! Truly one of the most interesting dishes in a while both visually and for it’s great taste!
We had a glass of great Arman Malvazija suggested by the somellier.

Le Mandrač is not a regular restaurant. It is a very popular place that keeps setting standards for all and the chef is always pursuing new and innovative dishes making this restaurant stay in top 5 restaurants in the country for years now!

At lunch time, reservations were needed as the terrace fills quickly with locals and tourists. The view of small harbor (mandrac) from the restaurant is fabulous!

We ended the day with two chocolate creations and that was a perfect end before our loong journey south.
