Frog legs in Trilj, traditional Croatian food

Sv. Mihovil, on the left bank of Cetina river in tiny Trilj town, should be high on list of restaurants to visit while in Dalmatia! Actually, the restaurant is called “Čaporice” but everyone calls it after the hotel where the restaurant is.
So, this Saturday, on our way back from Imotski, we decided to stop there for a lunch.

Ok, December is not the best month to enjoy Trilj. It is always much colder here than in Split. The town is quite lovely and you can sit outside from April to October but there is also plenty of room inside the restaurant for winter months. The hotel Sv Mihovil is only 30 Km from downtown Split and offers a very authentic cuisine of the region.
I do get asked a lot, especially by my clients who spend over a week in Croatia, where to eat something different than the regular offer of the restaurants on the coast (sea food, meat, risottos, pizza…)

Traditional starters!

The very tasty alternative to everything you eat in Croatia, can be found at Sv. Mihovil restaurant!

We started with a plate of traditional cheese, smoked local trout, pršut and famous local “uštipak” (fried dough). We also ordered Biokovo cheese with herbs. All that was VERY tasty! Smoked trout was quite a surprise!

So we moved on to the main course: frogs! This restaurant is famous for frogs and crayfish. Unfortunately, the crayfish season is usually in Spring and Summer so they were not available. Therefore, we ordered frogs for all 5 of us: mix of fried frog legs and fried frog legs with pršut (smoked ham).

And that was one great lunch!

The desserts were only crepes so we passed and just had coffee.

Stuffed after a great meal, we went for a walk by the Cetina river and across the unusual suspension bridge to the other bank.

So, for an alternative to regular dishes served in Croatian restaurants, “Čaporice” at Sv Mihovil Hotel in Trilj is a great choice!
